Review Of My New and Much Needed Cooker!

Beko BDVC663

Hi Everyone!

I thought I would write a review of my new and very much needed cooker. It became a necessity when the old one would only cook at 200 degrees! Not very good when trying to bake a sponge or meringue. Plus the top oven didn't work at all.

The cooker I choose is a Beko double oven (BDVC 663) and here are some pros and cons that I have found.

Cons

1. The oven comes with a roasting pan which doubles up as the grill pan. I found this to be very heavy and cumbersome, especially if you only want to grill a piece of bacon. Also  it has not got a handle so having to use oven gloves makes handling even more awkward.

2. My last cooker had, a ring which had a smaller ring within it, meaning you could use a really small pan . This was very useful if cooking small amounts of food. The new cooker does not have this feature.

3. The top oven/ grill is quite narrow in height as the shelf has only one position. You have to be careful when grilling ,in order that the food doesn't touch the element. Also it would not be suitable to cook chicken or roasts.

4. This cooker does not come with a clock or timer of any sort. My last cooker had this feature built in and I became very reliant upon it. However, this new cooker does not and I find myself looking for the time rather frequently.

Pros

1.When the top oven/grill door is left open it automatically means the grill is in operation. And when the door is closed after turning on, the oven is in operation. This is a very good safety feature as if the door closed by accident when grilling smoke cannot build up and catch fire.

2.There is about a two inch extra width at the back on the hob. This is for ventilation and is very useful if a lot of food is being cooked. It is a good warning as smoke can filter through if something is burning.

3. Even though the roasting/ grill pan is heavy it is handy for roasting chicken or beef and the wire shelf is good for catching fat whilst the foods are being cooked.

Overall

All in all this cooker is a very good buy for the money. I would give it 8.5 out of 10.  I did however buy a smaller grill pan with removable handle which was the same as the one in my last cooker. (Note to self, always keep extras from old cookers until you are really sure they are not needed!)
This added extra to the overall price of the cooker but well worth it. I would recommend this cooker if you are looking for something not too expensive.

Hope this review was useful if you are in the market for a new cooker.

Feel free to leave any comments or feedback if you have or are about to purchase this particular cooker.
