Freezer is your friend Take 2

Hi everyone!

Here is the next list of foods that I freeze and my way of doing so. Many things seem quite obvious to freeze but it's how they are prepared that can save time, money and space.

1. Bacon and Turkey/Pork or Chicken Escalope

When I buy any of these, I separate them and wrap individually in tin foil. This way you can take out as many or as few as needed. They also stack neatly on top of one another.

2. Bread, Rolls, Bagels and Baps

With bread, I put three or four slices in freezer bags and tie securely. All rolls, baps or bagels are wrapped individually in bags. These also stack well.

3. Carrot and Turnip.

At the start of each month I cook and mash carrot and turnip( you can also use parsnip).Once cooled,  I put enough for one serving in a freezer bag and tie securely. I have found if line a mug with the bag it makes it easier to fill. The bags can be put neatly on freezer shelf. Just take out and defrost for half an hour or so or put straight into pot with lid and cook on very low heat.

4. Chicken Breasts

I buy these in bulk from my local Food Service shop. I put each breast into a freezer bag, tie and pile up in one of my freezer drawers. Once again remove as many as needed to be used.

5. Kidneys and Braising Steak

I make steak and kidney pie for my husband and myself, so I buy packets of kidney (have to say I only like lambs not ox) It usually takes two kidneys per dish so I freeze this amount in bags.Braising steak can also be bought in bulk, wrapped and frozen in foil and then in bags. These also stack nicely on the freezer shelf.

Time Saver

It may seem a lot of work and bags but it saves money in the long run as you are not taking whole packets of bacon or sausages out when only a few are required.

So let me know what you think of my time and money saving tips and I will start my next list.
